Strathie pipped in Ellon
Narrow deafeat ends cup run.
Strathie headed North on Saturday to play in the Caldeonia Shiled Semi Final against Ellon RFC.
The home side started strongly with some solid scrummaging and hard running forcing the men in black onto the back foot. Strathie lacked discipline under pressure and soon began giving away penalties allowing Ellon an early lead. However Ellon's penalty count also began to rise with Strathie opting to kick into the corner and pile the pressure on. Good mauling from the line outs lead to tries from Gavin Dissel and Scott Strachan with a conversion and later a penalty from Stewart Ross making the half time score Ellon 9 - 15 Strathmore.
The second half started like the first with Ellon determinied to make up for their disappointing league campaign and took the game to away side. Their pressure soon told with the opposition full back gliding through for a try under the posts which was soon converted. A second try for the Meadows side soon followed giving them a 21-15 lead but men from Forfar responded with the forwards carrying well. A try came eventually from Colin Bell but the conversion was difficult and was narrowly missed. The game went from end to end in the final minutes and finished with a drop goal attempt from Strathie that fell short.
This was a game that could have went either way but again mistakes from Strathmore in poor tackling and a high penalty count gave the opposition an advantage.
