Disappointing defeat for Blacks
Strathie lost 35 - 17 against a typical student side.
Following injuries the previous weekend and two call offs on Saturday morning Strathmore travelled to St Andrews with a new look team to face an unknown St. Andrews University side.
The blacks quickly went behind with two break away tries from the pacy students, both of which were converted. Some solid forward play and a rising penalty count from the students allowed Colin Bell to score off a driving maul from a line out. Stewart Ross converted. A charge down from the students and another quick break away meant a half time score of 28- 7.
The Strathmore side refocused at half time and started to play a much more forward orientated game with some good driving runs and support from Ben Fotheringham, Ewen Hart, Kevin Hood and Scott Strachan. This allowed the Forfar side to increase the pressure on the saints line which eventually broke with a try from debutant tight head prop Gavin Dissel. The performance of Gavin was one of the positives of the day.
A second try came in the last minute from hooker Glenn Feighan making the final score 35-17.
This Saturday Strathie travel to Thurso to play Caithness RFC and will be looking for an improved performance.
