Blacks grind out win against Islanders
Strathmore make hard work of beating relagation strugglers.
In what was excellent conditions for the time of year Strathie had every opportunity to take bottom placed team Orkney to the sword early. However some lapses in concentration allowed the away team to lead 10-0 after less than ten minutes of play.
The home side improved as the first half progressed and ended the half 10-6 thanks to good kicking by fly half Stewart Ross.
A much improved second half saw scores from both David Smith and Rory Ferguson after some fine forward play, most notably from props Gavin Dissel and Ben Fotheringham. The improvement was in part due to the added composure provided at scrum half from Strathie legend Mike Bruce who marshalled the forwards and urged them on for the final forty minutes.
Stewart Ross kicked one of two difficult conversions and kicked a winning penalty to ensure a much needed win for the home team.
