With the game being moved to Montrose following the overnight frost in Forfar Strathie started the game playing into the wind. A solid catch of the restart and a few good drives from the forwards gave the men in black a platform straight away but as was to be the story of the game mistakes were made and possession was handed to the varisty side. For the first 35 minutes both sides had good pressure and chances but failed to score until the students were gifted an easy try. Minutes later an excellent kick of touch and a soaring line out take preceeded Gavin Dissel crashing over for a well deserved try. Fraser McKay slotted a diffcult conversion before the half time whistle sounded.

The second half was in truth a continuation of the first with the students pace allowing them to capitalise on further mistakes from the men from Forfar to score three more tries and secure the bonus point. Strathie did respond with a second try from Gavin Dissel, a try from Jamie Wilson and one conversion from Fraser McKay but it was not enough. The players walked off the park knowing it was a game they should have won.
