On 20th June 2012 Andy & Jesse are to take to the water in an attempt to kayak 100 miles down the Wye to support their favourite good cause, Rugby for Heroes. They are hoping that this fundraising challenge will raise £2000 in the process.
The Kayak Challenge is to start at Glasbury, Herefordshire and end 100 miles and 4 days later in Chepstow.
The challenge has also already received sponsorship from Crouch & Hold, a sports and leisurewear company based in Gloucester who will kindly be supplying the clothing required for the trip.
Andy & Jesse have decided to support Rugby for Heroes not only because of their obvious close connection with the game but also due to the fact Jesse, himself is an ex-service man with the Royal Navy, has some close friends that have and still are involved with the forces, including Luke Dando who is another member of the Stroud Rugby family.
To sponsor the boys in his challenge, you can donate online at www.justgiving.com/kayak100
Andy says:
"Since being forced to retire from rugby due to persistent knee injuries and severe arthritis I have been searching for an activity that will allow me to push myself to the limit, much like rugby did. For a number of years I have supported Rugby for Heroes as a charity but thought it time to make a bigger impact and so the Kayak 100 was born! We’ve put in place a 10 month training regime for this challenge which will be extremely tough to compete but one we feel is fitting for the cause. I am hoping for a good response in sponsorship and already would like to thank Alan Lamb of Crouch & Hold for supplying our clothing equipment.”
Jesse adds:
"Being ex-Navy I know all about the great men & women who live and die within the forces. Being involved with this challenge ensures I can continue with my efforts to support the people who I hold in the highest regard. This will be hard work but alreay enjoy being back on the water."
