St Senans Rugby Club would like to announce that Ed Barnes will join the club for the 2017/18 Season as Head Coach.
Ed hails originally from New Zealand but has made Ireland his base for the last number of years.
Ed Joins Senans after a very successful few Seasons abroad coaching Dumfries RFC in Scotland. During his two seasons at the helm with Dumfries Ed steered the club to a top four finish in his first season and more success followed the following season they won the league and gained promotion to the Scottish national league division 2. Also in that season, Ed was nominated for National Coach of the year in Scotland.
Ed also worked with Scottish rugby during his time in Scotland where he was the Club & Community Rugby Manager (Schools programme) he was also a Regional Development Officer and coached regional development squads at under 17 and under 15’s levels.
Ed’s rugby coaching experience and qualifications are of the highest level. He has previous coaching experience in Ireland where he coached Tralee RFC for 4 years. During his time in Tralee Ed was Senior Men’s J1 coach for 4 years during that time Tralee finished in the top four, three time’s which secured AIL cup qualification for the Club.
Not only did Ed coach the men’s side during his time in Kerry but he was also the Ladies AIL Div 1 head coach in Tralee. Ed’s back round in construction was also put to good use during his time in Tralee where he designed and project managed the construction on the Club’s Gym and Ladies dressing rooms. As a show of appreciation of Ed’s services to the Kerry club, he was also awarded Lifetime membership for services to the club.
Ed has worked with Munster Rugby in the past where he held various positions with the underage and regional development squads along with holding the position of Head Coach/Development Officer – Tralee IT.
In Ed’s word’s his strengths would be in the developing quality players, organising, and maintaining an advanced rugby programme that delivers results. He has also specialised in developmental programmes, particularly for young adults transitioning to adult programmes at pro/semi pro level.
We hope you will all join us in welcoming Ed during this exciting time for the club, given the success the 2nd’s achieved last season so many of those players will be pushing for a place on this seasons J1 team. Along with that, we also had an extremely successful year at underage level with the club securing their first trophy at this level.
The future is looking bright for the club who have a strong committee in place for this season under the leadership of President Derek Clancy.
