Cox the hero as depleted Bees lose the first leg.

by Bob Fletcher

All set up for second leg push as Bees rearguard almost hold out.

The Beehive was the venue for the 1st leg of the semi final of the League Cup against
Tipton Town on Tuesday. The Bees missing 3/4players were put under pressure almost
straight away as Tipton took the game to the hosts. However it was 27 mins before I
wrote anything on me pad,I think I was still in a state of shock after being given the
news I had won the super six.Back to the report it was Dave Bate who was responsible
for my first imput when he stuck the bar with a fierce shot from some 20yds.Turner
almost scored for the Bees when his lob over the keeper only just cleared the bar on 32
mins,Clark-O'Connell was causing the Bees defence problems with his pace down the
right, and on 35mins one of his crosses was met by a Waite header and Cox was forced
to pull off one of his many good saves.Westwood then tried his luck but Cox was again
equal to it on 40 mins .A minute later a McFarlane effort from inside the six yard box
was somehow clawed away and put over the bar by Cox.The Bees bought the half to a
close when a fine Turner 20yd effort just cleared the bar.The Bees had to reshuffle at the
start of the second half when Carter failed to show and O'Brien took his place. An event
as rare as rocking horse muck took place in the 55min when Hicks was cauntioned for a
foul.Tipton did not reach the hieghts of the first half as the Bees upped their game
slightly although Clark-O'Connell was stil causing all sorts of problems.Cox showed his
class again pulling off another fine save from Clark-O'Connell on the hour ,and again
five mins later from a Westwood shot.Tipton rung the changes as they tried desperatly
to score a goal which their play deserved, and although suprisingly taking off Clark-O'Connell
they did eventually score when old boy and subsitute Leigh Downing found the back
of the net on 85 mins after a sleek move.So Tipton take a deseved 1-0 lead into the
second leg to be played on the fourth of April.M.O.M.Perry Cox
