So as we slide out of January on very wet and muddy pitches

Sudbury are coming into a difficult run of games on the back of three very good wins to start the new year. A convincing win at Romford was followed by a good performance against Basildon who, although bottom of the league, put up a brave display in a game that gave some more of our young players a chance to have a run out.

Best of all was the win at Holt last Saturday. I think that was probably the best win of the season, and the best match Sudbury have played for a number of years. Holt were stunned and it was worth every bit of the two-hour drive. Well done everyone.

Today we welcome Ipswich, and two months ago we might have thought we would have the points in the bag. But what a turnaround they have had, with a succession of very good wins, so today will see Sudbury put to the test. Then we have a week off before we travel to Diss, and then we entertain Saffron Walden on February 20, when we will be looking for some great support to see if we are able to topple the leaders.

While all this is happening with the First team the Twos have been having a mixed time. But this is mainly when the First team need to call on their players which, of course, has a knock-on effect down the line to the Thirds. But this is what it is all about. We need this strength in depth, and it is great to see the young players coming through. No other club has so many homegrown lads in their senior teams.

The club continues to grow, but at the same time we need to make sure it is sustainable. So we try to hold events ourselves, but we also need to hire out the hall to third parties to try to ensure the club is fully utilised. Tim Fulford has put himself forward as Social Secretary, and is aiming fill the gaps in the events calendar. So please, if you want to hold a party, or hire the club for other purposes, give Ruth Hellier a call at the club, or give Tim a call on his mobile 07956 748459.
