In the wake of events in Paris and the tension surrounding this week’s football fixtures around Europe, a London League Two North East rugby fixture

on Saturday seems fairly insignificant. But, of course, life must go on, and this weekend we welcome South Woodham Ferrers to Whittome Field for what promises to be a highly competitive contest. Sudbury currently sit fourth in the league, two places ahead of our visitors, but recent momentum is with South Woodham Ferrers, who have won both of their last two fixtures, whilst we have gone down to Diss and Saffron Walden.
That said, our lads performed very bravely against a big Diss pack in heavy conditions a fortnight ago and were unlucky to ultimately lose by just three points. Last week, away at Saffron Walden, I’m told that although we lost the game, four seventeen-year-olds in our 1st XV really showed the promise of what is to come in just a few years’ time.
Elsewhere, in Eastern Counties Division Two South, the Talbots are having a mixed season, having won four out of seven matches so far. Levels of enthusiasm and commitment remain very high however and again, the quality of our youngsters coming through bodes very well for the future.
Resurgent this season is our 3rd XV and, thanks to Mike Beckett’s dedication, the team is appearing regularly and competing well in Eastern Counties Division Four South. Three wins from five fixtures see our Tigers sitting third in the league.
On the social front, we held a somewhat impromptu, but successful lunch, when Diss came to town recently, and today sees our Winter Beer Festival, complete with live music in the evening. Our next big event is the Christmas Lunch on 19 December, when we host a 1st XV fixture against (currently second in the league) Norwich. Tables for that one are selling out fast, so please book your places today.
Enjoy the game, the winter beer, and the live music. Thank you for your continuing support and this week, vive la France!
