Sunderland defeat Skipton
Sunderland win by 8 tries to nil
After a short break Sunderland came up against Skipton in the final match and gained good possession from the off. Tough defending from Skipton scuppered a few missed opportunities and this meant much of the first half action remained in the middle of the pitch. Some nice passing from the lineout from Armstrong, to Phillips and then to Newby and Sunderland plugged away to eventually score just before half time with a great effort from Phillips.
The second half saw plenty of opportunity as Sunderland settled into some great rugby. Michael Holder surged through the forwards legs to score from the ruck and scored again minutes after, following a great break from Hutchinson. A further try came from Matthew Sanderson who had a fantastic run from the halfway line, he then scored again bringing Sunderland lead to 5-0. A buoyant Sunderland then displayed some great passing exchanges to enable Hutchinson to score again. Then a fantastic timed pass from Aidan Wayman to Holder saw him score his hat trick of the day! Skipton persevered and came close to scoring but great defence again gave opportunity in the final seconds for Edmundson to fly over the try line on the final whistle. Final Score Sunderland winners by 8 tries to nil.
A great mornings rugby, and thanks to Skipton our hosts, for entertaining us at their fabulous ground. Thanks to all parents and coaches for their support in travelling to the venue and for their patience during the mammoth bus journey home. Bermuda triangle springs to mind!
