Sunderland continuted there unbeaten run the summer league with a 7-0 win over Darlington. Sunderland had some new faces in the team with a lot of players being unavaible and most of the students returning home for the summer.

In goal saw the return of Glen Olston who had an excellent game and kept sunderland in the game at times with some fantastic saves. Also playing were vets Neil Sparrowhawk and Mark Wilkinson who both had fine games in the middle (M.Wilkinson scoring 3).

Sunderland started the game well and pressed throughout causing problems for Darlington who couldnt get the ball out from defence. The Darlington defence was finally broken when Sparrowhawk won a foul outside the D and Andy Gayner drove the ball and fired a shot into the bottom corner. Soon after it was 2-0 when Andy Wilkinson won the ball in the circle and slotted the ball passed the GK. The 3rd goal came from a quick free hit and Sparrowhawk found Ian McGinley and the top of the circle unmarked and he foud the bottom corner with a great strike.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Sunderland quickly found themselves 4-0 up with some quick passing throught the whole team found Mark Wilkinson unmarked who put into an empty net. Two Short corners later and it was 6-0 to Sunderland as M.Wilkinson hit 2 great strikes from the top of the circle passed the keeper.

Darlington did have there chances but the defence played excellent throughout. Mom was defender Andy Crute who put in his best proformance of the summer.
