This Sunday sees Supermarine Ladies face their biggest test to date when they take on Darlington Mowden Park Sharks at the home of Supermarine Rugby.
The Sharks are part of the newly formed Tyrrells Premier 15s completion for ladies. The new competition which begins in September will showcase the best women’s rugby players this country has to offer.
The sharks are coached by Mike Umaga who is a former Samoan Rugby Union International and brother of former New Zealand rugby union Captain Tana Umaga.
The sharks have amongst their ranks 6 players who were selected in the England women’s world cup squad and 3 of these players started in the final against New Zealand. The sharks highest profile player is England’s Fly half Katy McLean. Katy has 89 caps for England and was captain for the world cup winning team in 2014. She also represented Great Britain in the 7's at the Rio Olympics.
The sharks will provide a stiff test for Supermarine Ladies who will be plying their trade in the RFU Ladies Championship North this season. Coach Jamie Barrett (JB) said ‘This is an exciting challenge for us and will really show where we are as a team and let us know if we can compete at the highest level this country has to offer'. 'The sharks are bringing a mixture of 1st XV and development players to Supermarine and our ladies will certainly relish the challenge’.
The game at Supermarine kicks off on Sunday 3rd September at 15:00. The bar will be open and Entry is free.
