Chairman and Merlins founder Nick Weston steps down

The Sussex Merlins chairman Nick Weston has stepped down to spend more time with his family and work commitments after 8 long and successful years.
With declining numbers and location struggles we could of quite easily have folded the club and carried on with our normal lives...but as we aren't normal we decided to push on and get behind the club once again, after all the club has produced some quality players with 2 lads currently playing in the London Broncos Scholarship programme.

As of January 2018 we have many positional role changes with Kieran Robertson and Steve Jones stepping up into the club Chairman/Secretary roles respectively and Paul Buck stepping in as Treasurer, all three are long serving members of the club and are also club coaches with additional coaches stepping in.

Our location has changed from Waterhall playing fields to Portslade Village green, the reason behind this is purely funding costs, easy accessibility and only running two teams with an U4's Rugby tots also.

The other two teams will include an U7's and an U9's, We chose to start back from the youngest age group and concentrate with the primary teams as everyone knows they are the heart of any strong club and have been neglected over the past few years but is now top of our agenda to bring a different kind of sport thats fast fun filled and a great team effort to the community.

As a result of a fresh start and a new era for the club, we have decided to freshen up the club badge and we hope you will all welcome the new style, our old badge will still be with us on all our playing kits.

We would like to say a very big thank you to Nick for building this club up from nothing and we hope we can continue to carry on his great work for years to come.
