Freeman free kick secures victory at Worcester City
FA Youth Cup Q2
Worcester City 0 Sutton Coldfield 1
10 days after a heavy league defeat to the same team, Sutton had a big task to get through to the next round of the competition.
With a strong breeze spoiling the conditions, Worcester started strongly and force two corners in the first three minutes.
Sutton dealt with this well and eventually had Worcester on the defence with a number of attacks, notably Zak Harbon getting a few shots off causing the home defence some problems.
In the 28th minute, Sutton went ahead when a free kick was awarded ten yards from the corner of the box.
Jake Freeman struck a low driven ball across the front of the defence, and Zak Harbon read it first and attempted to hit the ball, this movement deceived the Worcester keeper and Jakes free kick missed everyone and ended up in the corner of the net.
Worcester came straight back and following a one on one, Worcester’s number 9 had his shot cleared off the line by Ben Covill. Dylan Mandaracas in Suttons goal had done a brilliant job of sending the forward wide enough to make it difficult.
For the rest of the game, Worcester dominated possession but Sutton were dangerous on the break.
One save by Dylan Mandaracas from a close volley was unbelievable, then Sutton went straight up the other end and Bobby Aleksandrov put the ball just wide with only the keeper to beat.
Every single player contributed to a great result against a Worcester team of outstanding players with their centre back being the best player on the night.
Sutton now face Stourbridge at home week commencing 16th October.
