Royals finish 3rd

On Saturday 20th May, the U16's completed their season by competing in the JPL Champions Cup Finals day down in Wiltshire. This was an end of season tournament for the 5 regional league winners to determine the overall JPL Champions. Sutton actually came runners up to Worcester City in their regional league, but received an invite due to Worcester being involved in a Cup Final on the day.

In a tight tournament, where every game was settled by one goal, Sutton drew their opening game 0-0 against the eventual winners, North Somerset. The next game saw Sutton suffer a 1-0 defeat against Wiltshire, when a last minute goal proved to be costly as the tournament progressed.

Game three saw Sutton bounce back, beating last seasons JPL winners Aylestone Park 1-0 thanks to a Joe Maguire strike. A pleasing win, as Aylestone had knocked us out of the JPL Cup earlier in the season and are a very strong team.

The final game saw us face Rushall Olympic, knowing only a win would give us any chance of winning the tournament, however another tight game ended 0-0.

North Somerset were worthy winners on the day and the tournament again showed that we are able to compete nationally with some of the best teams outside of Academy football.
