A draw would have been most people’s expectations before the kick-off and for 84 minutes that was what was on the cards. Then the game erupted when Sutton went ahead when a corner on the left by Matt Jackson reached the far post and Scott Rickards was on hand to fire home the opening goal.

Straight from the restart Loughborough attacked down the left and substitute Reece Lester cut in and fired from the edge of the box and the ball cannoned off Nick Dodd and ballooned over the keeper for an equaliser within one minute.

Sutton now threw everything in to re-establishing their lead but it was a good passing move down the right that led to Lester scoring his second again as he crashed it off the shins of a Sutton defender. Within three minutes Sutton had led given away an unlucky equaliser and then conceded the winning goal.

The game was a close affair with Sutton having the majority of play in the first half but Loughborough having the best chances and being denied by two super saves by Niall Cooper in the Sutton goal the first a point blank shot and the second a great tip over the bar from a shot from 20 yards out.

The second half was evenly matched and until the dying minutes both teams were settling for a draw.
