LAST GASP EDMUNDS GOAL GIVES ROYALS AN AWAY WIN AT HYDE
After their excellent win last weekend against league leaders Blyth Spartans Sutton suffered a blip in midweek losing away to mid table Grantham. They were hoping for more consistency as they travelled to another mid table team at Hyde.
The first half was fairly evenly matched with Sutton just shading it and having the best chances. The first of which came in the opening minutes whith a free kick fired low into the box and Luke Rogers headed just wide. It was Rogers who also had the next chance for Sutton when he was put through and with only the keeper to beat he delayed long enough for a defender to rob him as he was about to fire home.
Sutton should have taken the lead when a suciidal back pass was siezed upon by Rogers but his shot ricocheted of the keeper and rolled wide of the post. The half ended all square.
The second half was an end to end encounter with Hyde having the better of the opening 15 minutes. James Burke hit the post with a cracking shot and it was no surprise when in the 54th minute another attack ended with Scott Spencer being tripped in the box and he got up to make no mistake with the Penalty.
Sutton shuffled the pack and brought on Edmunds and Gueyes and immediately had more width and they were now pushing forward at will and it paid off when some good link play between Edmunds and Goddard resulted in the later crossing for Joel Kettle head home and put Sutton on level terms. From now on it was all Sutton and the away side pressed forward looking for a winner. A great passing move ended in Danny O'Callaghan being set free but his angled shot bounced back of the post and it looked as if that would be the Royals final chance but with minutes remaining Joel Kettle was sent forward and he caused mayhem in the home sides area and when a deep ball was played into the box in the final staged he challenged the keeper and defender who panicked and the ball dropped to Ryan Edmunds who cooly slotted home from outside the box to give the Royals a deserved 3 points.
