Sutton lose out 1-2 to Grantham Town FC
Sutton bow out of the Northern Premier League with a 1-2 loss at home
Sutton drew to a close their three year stay in the Premier Division of the Evo Stik Northern League. A feat than many had predicted would end after their first season but a difficult start to the beginning of this season gave them to much to do an this afternoon they faced play off contenders Grantham who needed a point to be mathematically certain of that place.
The game began with Sutton pushed back and Grantham having the best of the chances but Teuton did look dangerous when they were able to break.
A free kick taken by Adam Murray led to Josh Green lobbing the ball over the Grantham crossbar.
Grantham went ahead in the 20th minute when a corner came back of a Sutton defender and fell to Jordan Hempenstall who lobbed the keeper into the net.
A corner from the left by Murray was flicked on by Karl Hawley and just went the wrong side of the post.
The second half began with Grantham increasing there lead in the 50th minute when players were queuing up to shoot into the net but it was that man Hempenstall that finished it off.
Sutton pulled one back from a corner that reached the far post and Lee Smith headed home.
A snap shot by Justin Richards pulled a good diving save from Kieran Preston in the Grantham goal.
The game ended with Sutton pushing to get the equaliser but the final whistle of the game and the season bought their efforts to an end.
