SUTTON MAKE SHORT WORK OF CALVERTON Report by Peter Bough

Snipes manger Dean Short was clearly es tactic as his new look Sutton team whipped Calverton by the tune of 5 goals to 1.

"All the pre-seasons hard work payed dividends" said Short who's team dominated the affair from start to finish.

Short then went on to say, "it was pleasing that we created so many chances of which the majority were converted", "I'm pleased for tha lads and for the professionalism they showed".

He then went on to say, "There's certainly a good feel factor around the camp but were not going to get carried away on the back of one result". "All the hard work starts again tonight as we entertain kimberley"

it maybe just the start of the season but Sutton showed real championship qualities as they out battled and out-witted their visitors from start to finish.

Louis green was drafted in from his usual position of winger to slot into the strikers post, and boy he did not disappoint after securing a brace in the opening 20 minutes.

his first goal came on 15 minutes after so neat play down the right flank saw the ball fed inside to Green who smashed his shot past the out stretched arms of the keeper. his second came just 5 minutes later, Riley's goal kick was pushed forward to Green by Jason West. Green then ghosted past the last defender and from 18 yards out coolly lobbed the advancing keeper.

Sutton added a third on the half hour some brilliant 1 touch football in the middle of the park enabled Nathan Hollingworth to sortie forward and when receiving the ball on the edge of the box he let fly with a tremendous shot that flew into the top left hand corner of goal.

They scored their fifth on the hour when from 18 yards Dale Gilliott's superb side foot left the keeper motionless.

With the game over as a contest Sutton where able to take the foot off the pedal enabling Short to make a succession of substitutes. the performance was somewhat marred as they allowed Calverton a very late consolation goal scored by Josh Croft.
