Twas the day before kick off, a guru from near to Ulluru, and other musings.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let me tell you a little story.

There once was a wee club called Swaffham. They live in the western parts of Norfolk. They had the most fantastic season anyone could have dreamt of- a league championship, 2 cups. Yes 2- the second being at a wee "Cabbage Patch" in SouthWest London.

Quite a dream huh!? Well this year we can dream of all those. Some are realistic, some just aren't.

We are about to start the senior season, hosting Rushden & Hingham. The Pedlars ko at 1.30 pm, with the 1st XV doing the honours at 3pm. Your support would be welcomed for an afternoon of rugby, for both sides.

Preseason training has been constructive, with loyal numbers showing up each Tuesday and Thursday night. This will continue during the season. The squad agreed to 2 training sessions a week, we will not be dropping back to one. 1 session will not give us the chance to work and improve.

The 1st's competed really well in the Summer 7s. Against specialist teams they were slightly exposed, but fought back against Oxfam Crusaders & Narborough Barbarians. In the games against "rugby" teams, they more than held their own, and in fact were pleasing on the eye.

The senior coaching team of Stuart Low & Francis Donaghy have come onboard to coach and take forward the teams. Their overall philosophy is strong and small- Keep It Simple, play whats in front of you. They have also appointed Marc Lockwood as Club Captain, and Jordan Mustard as Vice-Captain. We hope as a club, players and supporters will back them both.

Saturday 30th August will see where we are as a side. No promises, no fairytales.

On other matters, Mike Penistone will be visiting us on Tuesday night, and all coaches are cordially invited to watch this esteemed coach run through drills.

Friday 5th September sees Swaffham RUFC host a series of informal mothly CPDs, conducted by Lee Parry, an RFU official, and a friend to the club. This will be a chance for crossover ideas, for coaches to chat to each other. All coaches are wecome to these two FREE evenings.

It's not been a quiet close season. There are a lot going on at the club. A lot has been done behind the scenes. Please support the club, grab a tea/ coffee or a beer, and we hope to see you tomorrow at North Pickenham Road.

Francis
