Swans started the game by putting Reading under pressure for the first ten minutes, but could not convert this into points. The game became much more closely contested and a break by the Reading centre Alex Doriac after fifteen minutes resulted in a try close to the posts for the visitors for him. Fly Half Rob Sweeney added the extras, 0-7 to Reading. The game was very close with both sides coming close to scoring for the rest of the half, but with two minutes to go to the interval Rob Sweeney extended Reading’s lead to ten points with a well taken drop goal.
From the restart a mistake in Swans defence lead to a scrum, and from this the ball was moved once again to Alex Doriac who avoided a tackle to score his second try. Sweeney added the conversion 0- 17 to Reading. Swans continued to pressurise the Reading defence and from a penalty to the corner, Swans made a catch/drive move towards the Reading try line, and wing forward Audie Jones was on hand to score Swans only try.(5- 17). In a tightly fought game Reading added a penalty goal with ten minutes to go and in the final minute Reading put the game out of reach for Swans as the visitors other centre Mike Gubb went in under the posts, Sweeney added the conversion leaving Reading victors by 5pts – 27pts.
It was not all gloom and doom for Swans as Reading Abbey lost their final game at Maidenhead, leaving Abbey in the bottom three, meaning that Swanage & Wareham had avoided relegation from Southwest 1 by just one league point
