Ladies face tough opener in Eurohockey Club Champions Challenge II

Swansea City Spartans take on the champions of Azerbaijan, Baku HC at 3.00 this afternoon (Friday 25th May) in the Waldstadion, in Vienna, Austria.

Baku were relegated from Challenge I last year and will be looking to bounce straight back up this year. As with most former Soviet teams, Swansea can expect to find their opposition to be very fit and physical.

Swansea go in to the tournament on the back of a long hard season, having finished the league season in the club’s record high position of runners up in the West Conference of the Investec English National League.

Unfortunately due to a flurry of late injuries, Swansea have taken a depleted squad to Austria, but every player there is fully committed and aiming to improve on last season’s 5th place finish. Hopefully playing Baku in the first game, while our girls are fresh will give them the best chance of victory!
