Tadcaster Albion made it six league wins on the bounce at the weekend after a superb 6-0 win at home to Maltby Main.

The match marked the home debut of former Manchester United star Jonathan Greening who impressed with an assured performance in the midfield.

But his special day was somewhat eclipsed by his younger brother Josh Greening who grabbed his third hat-trick in a row, after scoring 10 goals in the last three games.

Brewers boss Paul Marshall said: “It was a brilliant result. A perfect day with six great goals.

“With the introduction of Jonathan Greening, there was a great buzz around the place, and I was slightly nervous with all the media attention, but he made it so easy for everyone, and the lads all got on well with him, which makes my job a lot easier.

“The biggest problem we’re likely to face this season is complacency. That’s what I’ve got to manage. We’ve got to keep our feet on the ground and make sure we go out and earn the right to win every game.

“Fortunately they’re getting the very best coaching from Mikey Morton and Simon Collins, and as long as they keep listening to what they’re saying we should be able to beat anyone in this league.

“It was a tough game against Maltby Main for the first 45 minutes. Maltby gave us a good test, but once we got the first goal I felt we began to step things up.

“I had to make the difficult decision as to whether to give Jonathan Greening his first start, as we had won five games on the bounce.

“There were however a couple of players who hadn’t performed as they should have done on Tuesday night so it made it a bit easier, and Terry (Taylor) was very understanding.

“There’s not a lot I can say about Josh Greening. What can you say when he’s scored three hat-tricks in a week? It’s definitely a club record and a very hard thing to do at this level. I’m chuffed to bits for him.

“All the limelight was on his brother and he stepped up to the plate and delivered. He’s a very calm and collected young man, and he’s getting better with every game.

“I was also pleased with Vinnie (Dhesi). He came on and scored a goal and also made a couple of goals. He did very well.

“Everybody is playing their part. I’ll be resting players as I see fit over the coming weeks, but I’m not weakening the team by playing the squad players because they’re all as good as each other.

“There’s a great team spirit at the moment, and they all had a great night out together in Wakefield on Saturday night.”

Tonight The Brewers head to Thackley who are currently 14th in the league after winning two, drawing two and losing four.

Paul said: “They’ve just had a change of manager because they started a bit poorly, so Lee Duxbury from Eccleshill United who beat us in the League Cup last year has taken over.

“He’ll be trying to introduce a lot of new things and make his stamp on the team. We haven’t had them watched yet this season, but I’m sure we’ll be in for a tough game.

“If we play to the best of our ability we should be able to beat them.”

Tonight’s game away at Thackley kicks off at 7.45pm.
