I sit here typing this festive update with a tinge of sadness. As many of you will know we lost one of Tadley stalwarts a few weeks ago after a long battle with cancer. I know Ally wont mind but I'd just like to say what a great turn out from existing and former members of the club for his seeing off in a typical Tadley Rugby Club fashion on the day. While not a constant first team player in his time. His dedication to the club in all areas from playing (Tour Legend :)) to volunteering and being second team manager will be sorely missed by all, #BandofRugbyBrothers!
I'm sure all will join with me in wishing Lisa and his girls our condolences and the Rugby Club will always be there for them if needed.
Turning to Rugby, the first team currently sit in a good position, mid-table in 6th position with the second half of the season all to play for. If we can keep injuries down to a minimum and PLAYERS available for training and games I can see no reason why we cant make a top for finish this season. With Craig and Tim's guidance at the helm.
Our second team sits 2nd in their league which is truly an achievement with personnel changing each week.
Jack, Connor and Bear all lead by example and have confirmed to me that there is a growing positive, enjoyable vibe growing within the playing ranks. Let get more people down to the club providing positive support to both teams on match days for the second half of the season shall we?
Bosh continues to push for third team bandit games which at times can be more entertaining than the league fixtures so you semi retired players come get some more mud on your boots and face you'll fall in love with the after match banter and aches/pains again
We have the traditional Port and Pasties match on the 29th at 1pm so get yourselves down here to see old friends and swap some tall tales.
Our junior section goes from strength to strength under the leadership of Nobby and Jon more than ably assisted by our new and old junior volunteers, who I thank immensely for stepping into the fray, in particular Tracy who has driven the junior section to new heights of compliance in the last few months with her tireless work behind the scenes.
Some notable achievements for the Juniors are:
- 5 new players joined U15s through recruitment by the players on how much they enjoy
- collaboration with Chineham with U14s, following coaches meeting and talking at RFU
- successful collaboration between Thatcham and Tadley U16s - now playing matches
and a non PC word winning :)
- new players still joining across most age groups
- positive comments from parents on the club following and reinforcing the RFU
principles of Teamwork, Respect, Discipline, Enjoyment and sportsmanship.
- new coaches starting at younger age groups at the beginning of the season
- Coaches undergoing DBS checks
- rugby ready and safeguarding courses attended
- 4 YMOs - 2 recently officiated for RFU events
- first female coach
- first team coach ran training session for youth section
It now only for me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
