Tadley II 17 v Reading III 8
Tadley edge a closely fought match.
After last week's excellent display against Abbey, the 2s were hoping for more of the same but a combative Reading outfit lead to a very even match. It was the visitors who started the stronger kicking an early penalty before Tadley got into their stride. Skipper Paul Denning orchestrating the plays from 10 leading to Tom Nash having some strong runs in midfield .Scott breadmore and Dan Fowler carried well in the forwards but the break through came when veteran wing Simon Denning was stopped just short of the line. After a couple more phases Stu Hutchinson went over from close range.
Tadley were in the middle of a purple patch and creating chances, after some good strong runs from the forwards tighthead prop Matt Stewart was particularly prominent, No.8 Stu Hutchinson showed up in midfield and a strong run saw him go over. The rest of the half was evenly contested with defence on top and it remained 10-3 to Tadley at the break.
Both teams were taking knocks and both team benches were put to full use, a couple of veteran Dave's came on for Tadley in Bosh and Sealy, this kept up the club's proud record of 27 seasons where every week there has been a Dave on a Tadley timesheet. The club will have to go on a Dave recruitment drive to continue this proud record as their is a severe shortage of up and coming Dave's in Tadleys impressive youth section and Bosh and Sealy probably only have another 10 seasons in them. The Daves were soon in the thick of the action Bosh with some good lineout takes and Sealy with excellent distribution from 9, Reece Coker had moved to 10 to accommodate Sealy and showed his full skill set with some great kicking to relieve any pressure and set up some good field position. just as it began to look like the half would remain scoreless with less than 10 mins to go the game burst into life, another Bosh lineout take was taken forward but a breakdown in midfield saw Reading break away, a great last ditch tackle from Simon Denning stopped the try but Reading worked the phases well from the resulting scrum to eventually get there big prop rumbling over. The conversion was missed so tadley still had a slim lead.
Tadley went on the attack again, another Bosh lineout drive saw Matt Stewart go close and when the ball went wide Stu Hutchinson now playing centre crashed over to secure his Hat trick. Coker kicked the conversion to wrap up a hard fought win.
