Tadley defeated in a tight game.
For once the score does not reflect the game.
Tadley came into this game with a different looking team to last weeks defeat to Newbury, with new centres and a changed pack. The game started with both teams looking to run the ball and both teams were very even with nothing to split them for the first 15 minutes apart from High Wycombe's strong scrum. But unfortunately for Tadley a missed Tackle let the Wycombe 5 break through and score in the corner with the conversion missed, this was a shame as the Tadley defence had been strong apart from that one point. The next 15 minutes were tight as well but with a strong Wycombe scrum, and with their forwards under pressure Tadley started to get Injuries, with Mike Jackson And Kev Hughes both having to take a break and be replaced by Dave Seal (not a prop) and Leo Strange who was doing his best Hair Bear Bunch impression. These substitutions boosted the Tadley team, but again Tadley were they're own worse enemy, with a kick to the corner area by Wycombe Tadley didn't clear it and even with a blatant forward pass they scored in the corner with the conversion missed. Soon another forward had to have a break with Jo Kan having a rest and Pie Face joining the game, much to the annoyance of the vets in the pack who needed a rest, spurred on by the lack of subs the Tadley team upped their work rate and through Seal, then Rumblow and Fellows battered the Wycombe line and earned a penalty on it. Wycombe though in a slick bit of defence turned the ball over from the Tadley pen with the Wycombe 9 doing his best greased weasel impression and slipping through tackles, only to a point though when a strong hit forced another turnover to Tadley and they were back on the try line with a massive overlap but again luck was with Wycombe and their winger intercepted the try scoring pass and ran the length to score... gutting and converted.
The second half started with strong words ringing in the teams ears from Captain Dyment and veterans Seal and PD and they kept up the same effort seen before the break with strong hits from the KO by Strange and Morgan (2 players at once), Tadleys attack was strong and Wycombe looked really dangerous on the break, something was going to give and it wasn't Tadley this time with the forwards taking the ball up the middle it created space and was exploited to let Dan Colburn touch down to score. The conversion was awarded by the ref though a few spectators were convinced it had drifted left, PD and the video ref were unavailable for comment. This had brought Tadley back into the game and they continued to heap the pressure on but again fortune shone on Wycombe and another interception lead to another breakaway try which was converted. This took the stuffing out of the game and with Tadley loosing their mojo, soon they lost PD replaced by Steve Dunham and even with Steve pegging Wycombe back in their 22 with kicks in behind the line, the tiring Tadley team had started to leave gaps and again Wycombe ran through from distance to score, which was converted. Wycombe were starting to run the ball at will in the last few minutes but were still feeling generous with another clean line break being stopped when the Wycombe player decided to drop the ball once he crossed the try line, but they weren't finished with almost the last play of the game the Wycombe forwards got the ball and mauled over in the corner for the final score again converted. This also saw Greg leave the pitch as they had walked on him so Tadley had to finish with 14 but no further scores happened.
Tadley can take a few positives from this game as it was a vast improvement from the week before, and the score did not reflect the closeness of the game and with a little bit more possession and quicker decisions the result could of gone the other way.
