Tadley Bandits 7 v Hungerford II 52
The Bandits were in local derby action.
It was a struggle to get a team all week so what the team needed was some experience, so it was greatly appreciated when experience walked through the changing room door in the shape of Big Tel, Jon Armstrong & Harvey- Almost 180yrs of experience coming to the teams rescue. They were needed as a rock hard pitch lead to a procession of injuries which saw a steady stream of subs which saw our experienced trio get considerably more than a Tadley 10 minutes.
It was apparent straight from the kick off that Hungerford were a well organised and efficient outfit, similar to the Bandits a lot of vets sprinkled with a few youngsters but all done just that little bit quicker, they ran hard all day and with the Bandits falling off several tackles they scored at regular intervals. Tadley had some bright moments, debutants Flanker Kieran running well with the ball and solid in defence and Steve D who marshalled the troops well at Scrum half, Centre Andy Allan had some good breaks, infact they all stood out.
Tadley worked there way into the Hungerford 22 and a after a few near misses from the forwards the ball was spun wide and 10 Andy Webster put Ady Wright in space for a good try, Webster converted.
Just as it appeared Tadley were getting some momentum going and were getting back into the game Mike Jackson got injured and as it was a back injury (he was ok after a hospital check up.) we all decanted to the other pitch. With only 10 mins of the half remaining both teams sussed which way the wind was blowing and stood at the same end for the restart, so the toss was redone and Tadley got the better of the deal, they conceded 1 more try before the break but would have the wind in the 2nd half.
Tadley started strongly some clever tactical kicking from Webster saw Tadley go close but once Hungerford got going again Tadley didn’t really look like scoring, the continuous flow of players on and off due to injuries disrupted the home side and the visitors better fitness saw them run in a few late tries against a tied looking Bandit outfit to rack up a big win.
