Tadley bandits 14 v Marlow III 40
The bandits were right in the game at half time before the visitors pulled away in the 2nd half.
A new season saw the return of several players to swell the bandit squad, back from college were Dom Alwood & Oli Ringrow ,returning after any injury break was Bill Copland and lured out of several years of retirement were Scott Breadmore & Kevin Simpson along with Dave Seal whose retirement was slightly shorter.
After the usual fun and games of sorting the team out hindered by late arrivals and no shows messing up skipper Bosh's plans the Bandits got of to a good start, Bosh regathering the kick off and some good controlled phases saw Tadley move up the pitch but when they kicked for territory Marlow showed why they were a top 3 side last season by countering for a try.
It was an ominous start and the Bandits needed something to raise the spirits and they got it from the scrum who took the ball against the head and No. 8 Scott B broke away linking with flanker Jake Bodin, Breadmore showed great pace and a fine side step to romp over from distance.
Marlow forced Tadley into long spells of defending the bandit tackling held up well with winger Dom standing out with some great cover tackles, the continuous pressure saw penalties conceded and 2 were kicked over. Tadley hit back when good chase work at the Kick off saw Bodin break through and with the line at his mercy passed to the supporting Bill COpland who went over. Ady Wright's 2nd conversion saw Tadley take the lead.
Marlow reclaimed the lead when after some more good last ditch tackling from Tadley the visitors finally found space out wide. The Bandits finished the half strongly getting to within inches of the line a couple times , a strong carry from Brandon Seal saw him go close but in the processes picked up a nasty shoulder injury, we all wish him a speedy recovery, he was replaced by Greg Gould.
The Bandits tried to re organise at the break but with a squad consisting of 9 props the options were limited and they were somewhat distracted for the kick off as Marlows big prop ambled through some non existent tackling to set up a score. Tadley followed this with a pretty lacklustre 20 mins conceding a further 3 tries as injury and fatigue took its toll, it looked like it could be a major beating but the Bandits upped there game for the last quarter. breadmore & Oli ringrow had great games in the back row alongside Jake Bodin who was the only man in the pack who wasn't a prop, the trio lead to most of Tadleys go forward along with veteran 9 Dave Seal. Tadley didn't dominate the scrum as much late in the game but the lineout went well with Bosh jumping well and Murph throwing accurately . both teams created chances but good defence saw no more scores the standout bit of defence came from replacement full back Jon Armstrong who rolled back the years when he ran back to tidy up a kick ahead and a shimmy and sidestep then a boot to touch saw the final whistle and though Marlow had racked up a big win Tadley can be pleased with their efforts , they had a lot of players who just came along for 20 min run out and ended up playing the whole game.
