Tadley Bandits 43 v Wycombe III 12
Tadley entertained old rivals Wycombe 3
Having struggled all season for numbers it was a great response from everyone to see plenty for the first home game of 2018. Numbers were bolstered by a couple of guest Robs from kingsclere & Aldermaston and we also had a debutant in Chris Van Niekirk and a player returning after a few years away from the game Jamie Shields.
After watching the young Wycombe outfit warm up it looked like it could be a tough afternoon but fortunately the weather gods smiled on Tadley and a very wet pitch was backed up by Gale force winds. The visitors soon showed how they intended to play running from everywhere and tapping penalties, and Tadley soon showed their hand when they got the ball using there big running forwards to make ground and their powerful scrum to take charge of territory and possession. In tough conditions bot h teams tried to use their backs, good midfield defence from Tadley put pressure on the visitors and kept them quiet and when they got there chance to attack , good pace and power saw centre Charlie Nicols break through and run in from distance.
Tadley continued the good play and No. 8 Rhys Priestland soon increased the lead, well converted by No. 9 Steve Dunham. Wycombe hit back with a determined chase after a clever kick ahead and added a 2nd try in similar fashion. TAdley finished the scoring for the half when fly half Mark Bolton went over for a try just before the break.
It was tadleys turn to play into the gale but they kept up the pressure with some excellent recycling at rucks and strong running, skipper Bosh went close and replacement hooker Rob d was on hand to score. Another replacement, prop Matt scored next with a strong run from his own half. With the wind dieing down and TAdley able to use their bench to rotate forwards it was hard going for the visitors but they never stopped tackling and the Bandits had to work hard for their last two tries. A driving maul from the 10m that almost went to the line was finished by Rob d and also getting his brace was Mark B with a solo run against a tiring Wycombe.
