A hard fought win
When the going gets Tough the Tough Get going
Reading 10-19 Tadley Colts
A depleted 15 man Tadley, would need everyone to put in a committed and full shift to compete against a full strength Reading.
That was needed more than ever, when against the run of play, Reading went over in the corner (dubious "in touch" call) for the first try and an early lead 5-0.
Tadley undeterred, got back at it with some full on Forwards carrying and tackling. A well worked move in the Backs allowed Sam to break the defensive line and run the ball under the posts, and straight back in the game at 5-7.
Before half time, The relentless Forwards pressure and territory in Readings 22m, enabled the ball to move across the pitch through the Backs for Calum to race into the corner. Half time 5-12 to Tadley.
An early response from Reading meant everything to play for at 10-12.
However, Tadley began to take the game by the scruff of the neck and pile on pressure and territory. Despite going two men down to injury (one replacement from Reading subs), a 14 man Tadley never looked like a man short. A similar training ground Backs move, allowed Charlie to now break Readings defensive line to go over, and move Tadley into a 10-19 lead. Tadley could have had more but for a bit more composure near the line, but never looked like losing, the final score 10-19.
Great to see the lads pull together and motivate themselves to the very end. The Forwards well led by the "older guys" Piers, Saul and Joe ... likewise the Backs well marshalled by Sam, Charlie and Jono. A game for everyone to stand up and be counted, and they did. Special mention for Callum (immense carrying) and Nick (back on despite going off) in the Forwards, and Cameron who made a nuisance of himself all day to his opposite number, with some great tackling thrown in for good measure.
