Match report - Club reporter Mark Kan
Petersfield 22-25 Tadley Colts
3rd place v 5th in Hampshire league 2.
Tadley took early lead with a line breaking run from centre Sam. However, Petersfield were no pushovers today, and this was going to be an even contest. The home team hit back straight away with two tries. Tadley gathered themselves and again after strong forwards play, positioned themselves well inside the 22m, for quick ball to centre Sam to drive to the line for his second try. However, Petersfield again hit back just before the interval.
Half time 17-14.
Shortly into the second half, an accidental injury to NO 8 Harry Turner meant the game was moved to the adjacent pitch whilst he received treatment and paramedic assessment.
This seemed to rally Tadley and pull together to take the game to Petersfield. A turn over ball led to a pass the width of the field from No 10 Jono Charles to Charlie L with an excellent kick that Charles the winger to run onto and kick on down the line, wrong footing their defence. The foot race was won by Tadley with outside centre Charlie grounding the ball for a try to take Tadley 2pts clear at 17-19.
Petersfield were not done and responded with a try within the last 10 mins, changing the lead yet again 22-19.
Tadley themselves rallied again and despite the pressure and territory in the opposition 22m, couldn't quite find the killer finish. However, a penalty kick by Charlie in the last 2 mins drew the teams level at 22-22 for a nail biter finish.
Pressure from Tadley on the 22m forcing the penalty in the dying seconds. Charlie held his nerve and composure to win the game with the last play of the match 22-25.
Great game by Tadley Colts. The walking wounded galvanised the team to pull together and show a neversay die attitude. All stepped up including the U16 guys, who were rewarded for their shift with a "drink" afterwards.
Just the commitment and attitude called for by Glenn last Wed.....
... proud of yer !!
