TAMAR Saracens have officially confirmed seven summer signings ahead of their Devon One campaign.
Their new faces are number eight Mike Cox, props Thomas Hicklin and James McFarlane, hooker Lee Dolphin, back-rower Scott Cooper, fly-half Lewis Swatton and wing Jamie Lavill-Harris.
Lavill-Harris has returned to the Parkway after a brief spell at Devonport Services.
The experienced Cox has joined from Ivybridge, while Dolphin has come from Fowey and promising youngsters Cooper and Swatton have moved from DHSOB Colts. Hicklin and McFarlane were not attached to clubs last season.
The seven are part of Sarries’ rebuilding on and off the pitch following their relegation from the Cornwall/Devon League.
As well as new faces and new kit, Saracens have also done a lot of work on their ground after obtaining a 25-year lease.
New floodlighting is currently being installed and should be working within a couple of weeks, a new path as been built from the clubhouse to the rugby pitch, new fencing has been put around the field and work has also been carried out on the changing rooms and dug-outs.
Saracens have already played two warm-up games. They played in the 10s event at the Rectory against Devonport Services and Plymouth Argaum and then played a four quarter match against Saltash at Moorlands Lane last week.
Although higher league Saltash comfortably won the game, Saracens coach Chey Bryce was happy with the run-out.
There were massive positives,” he said. “Last season we played them twice and got pumped and did not score. We got on the scoreboard this time and looked dangerous when we attacked.
“We had a quite a few boys missing but it was just about getting some rugby in.”
Saracens will continue their build-up next Thursday when they travel to Horsham Fields to play Cornwall/Devon League side Plymstock Albion Oaks.
