Tamar Saracens are due to host city rivals Old Techs this week in a classic Plymouth derby.

The pitch took a battering last week after the very much deserved and hard worked win over top table team Topsham. Sarries won the game 19-0 after the ref called time at 62 mins due to unsafe conditions, but the squad will continue that form against Old Techs, who are still waiting for their first league win of the season.

“The pitch took a little bit of a battering last week, but the weather has not been too bad this week,” said Tamar Saracens coach Chey Bryce.

“I know there is bad weather forecast for Saturday, but we’ll just have to wait and see. We’re assuming and preparing that it will be on.”

He added: “Last week will give us a lot of confidence. Training has been good this week. There has been a lot of smiles on faces which is really nice to see. Hopefully, we can take the momentum of last Saturday into this.

“We understand that Techs are going to be a little more physical up front, which was an area we dominated against Topsham. Hopefully, we can come back with the same sort of tempo and aggression and really put on another performance and get another win.”

Saracens are boosted by the availability of scrum-half Tom Rigby, prop Tom Hicklin and new signing Josh Heath. This will also be the much-anticipated return of hooker Adam Corbett, who has been out for a long time after a serious head injury earlier in the season.

Techs did not play last weekend as their match with Totnes was once again postponed.

They will be without forward Tom Luxton, who dislocated his shoulder in their last match against South Molton, but they should have Billy Evans and Jack Courtney back. But Sarries are not concerned with their availability and are going out to play the winning style that they have been the last few games.

The lads know its a big derby and physical match but are confident that a win here and the next couple of matches will bring them out of the red and into mid table. From there it will be a push to continue the rest of the season winning games and finish in the top half
