Tamworth Rugby Matters

Dear All, On behalf of the newly elected Management Committee may I take this opportunity to give a brief review of our current status and an overview of our proposed forthcoming events – those up to the New Year are fully detailed and those beyond are outlined but these will be expanded upon in the Xmas Newsletter.

Following a well-structured and fairly intense pre-season warm up our season formally got
underway last Saturday with a home victory for the First XV against Newcastle in the Staffordshire
Cup ( 27 – 3) – We now play Wednesbury in the first round proper on Saturday 25th September.
You will all be aware that last season we achieved promotion to Midlands Division 2 and this coming
Saturday 11th September we commence our league fixtures with a home match against Leek,
kicking off at 3pm. We all wish Andy Smith, his coaching team and players all the best for the
challenging season ahead of them.
The repairs to the Clubhouse roof will commence in earnest next week and we hope these will be
completed within a two/three week period weather depending. We hope to follow on closely or in
parallel the decoration of the Changing Rooms and a facelift for the ladies and Gents Toilets.
In recent weeks we have been in negotiations regarding the introduction of an in-house catering
arm to deliver a more expansive food base – Our plans are to add to the existing food supplied for
training / match days and Sundays. We will be looking at the introduction of hot food/bar snacks as
the autumn/winter approaches. We are pleased to inform the members that we have secured the
services of Clive Barker aka Jabba (formerly Old Crown @ Wigginton and Wigginton Arms -
excellent chef and front man).
We see an opportunity to provide food in house for any private functions booked @ the club and
also cater for our own Club Dinner, VP Days etc. and at Marquee weddings etc.
Clive commences on 14th September and we are looking at increasing our opening hours – Initially
this will be from 5.0pm as opposed to the normal 7.0pm Monday to Thursday. In recent months we
have tried Happy Hour on a Friday, offering reduced rate drinks from 5.30 – 10.0pm This has been
well received of late but we will be reviewing this on an on-going basis. For the avoidance of any
doubt we wish to confirm that Clive will be working alongside the incumbent team of Jim and Anne.
Please find listed some Diary dates for you all – please make every effort to attend these functions
