Course details below.
ACO Introduction to Umpiring Course
This Course runs during one evening and lasts for approximately 2.5 hours. It covers the essential Laws that anyone will need to get started in umpiring, and is particularly useful for those who might umpire occasionally, as parents at a colts' match, or perhaps while playing in a game themselves, or coaching. The Laws taught are not necessarily covered in full detail – that is done in Level 1 - but enough information is covered to enable the student to get out on to the field and umpire with enhanced confidence.

The Laws surrounding No Ball, Wide Ball and LBW are always covered in the Introduction to Umpiring course, but remainder of the evening can be tailored to suit the audience, and can include any or all of the topics listed in the attachment below, as time permits.

Main Topics covered are:
No ball – foot faults
- mode of delivery
- runs from a No ball, how scored
- Out from a No ball
LBW – short version covering factual points of the Law
Wide ball – judging of a Wide ball
- runs form a Wide ball, how scored
- Out from a Wide ball

Additional areas covered, in no particular order, are:
The role of the umpire
Dress code/Positioning
Bowled/Caught/Run outStumped
Scoring runs – short runs
- Boundaries
- Byes and Leg byes
Signals /The Over/Obstructing the Field/Handled the ball/Hit wicket

Junior Cricket and Umpiring Junior matches

Of course, the tutors are happy to talk about any of the other Laws as well, as requested by the audience.

While we call it An Introduction to Cricket Umpiring, it is not just targeting potential recruits to umpiring. It’s aimed at players, coaches, parents who get asked to help out and anyone who just wants to know more about the key role umpires play in our great summer game. We’d particularly like to attract women and younger people, who might be interested in officiating.

Regards

Jason
