Taunton U17's, the South West Bowl Champions, took on their South East counterparts, Southend RFC today at Henley RFC in the National Bowl Semi Final and secured a memorable victory with a last minute drop goal.
In a game where Taunton were slow to start, the boys finally found their game in the second half and started to play some flowing rugby on a hot sunny day against a big Southend side. After exchanging scores throughout the game at 12-12 with only minutes to go, a solid Taunton scrum laid the foundation for a superbly struck drop goal from Connor Vickery. At 15-12, Southend threw everything into a last ditch attempt to score but a reolute defensive performance saw the boys hold on for a thoroughly deserved win and a trip to Worcester's Sixway's Stadium on the 30th April to meet Darlington RFC in the National Bowl Final.
