Kingdom seals the win with the last kick of the game
In another poor Titans performance the team comes from behind to win thanks to the boot of Gary Kingdom
The out of sorts Titans for the second week came up against a team fighting for points and were once again second best but have the boot of Gary Kingdom to thank for scraping the win with a last-minute penalty.
The Titans started brightly with a try through centre Nick Mason after 5 minutes. After keeping the ball for over 10 phases the ball was fed wide for Mason to slide his way in to score. The Titans continued to attack but failed to turn pressure in to any further points. On the 20 minutes mark Barnstaple took the lead with a try scored by flanker Matt Ghol. With Taunton reduced to 14 men with Toby East getting a yellow card Barnstaple kicked to the corner and from the resulting lineout drove over for Ghol to score, with Jordan Petherbridge adding the difficult conversion. From the kick off the Titans claimed the ball and Mason claimed his 2nd try as the Titans recycled quick ball. Kingdom added the extras to give the Titans a 12 – 7 lead which they took into half time.
Straight from the start of the second half the Titans attacked and fly half Toby East managed to find a miss match and squeezed over in the corner and with Kingdom adding the touchline conversion the hosts had a 19 – 7 lead. The game was then delayed for over an hour as Barnstaple and Cornwall player Ben Hilton received lengthy treatment before being taken to hospital for assessment. When the game resumed, it was the visitors that looked the sharper, hungry from the delay and kept Taunton pinned in their own 22 for prolonged periods.
After camping on the Titans line, which had led to a second yellow card for the Titans as Blake Lugg was sent for a rest, the defence was breached and Barnstaple scored a try from scrum half James Bath, who took advantage of no cover on the blind side of the ruck to dive over. This was followed 10 minutes later with another try this one scored by centre Ryan Carter. With Petherbridge converting both it gave Barnstaple a 2 point lead with 3 minutes to go.
Barnstaple secured the kick off but the Titans still had time and managed to gain the turnover and then the penalty for Kingdom to save the day on the final whistle.
