For the first time Tauranga Sports fielded an U14 team at a Sevens Comp.

For the first time Tauranga Sports entered an U14 team in a Sevens competition.
Te Puna hosted its first rugby sevens competition and for the first time the clubs were asked to enter an U14 team.
Primerily the team was made up with players from the Otumoetai College U14 team with three players joining the team from Taupo.

This was the boys first ever experience at playing sevens and it was a steep learning curve.

With limited training time they definitely went in as the under dogs.

There were six teams entered. Te Puna, Te Puke, Saint Kents College and two Malaysian teams playing under the mount banner.

These two teams were on tour and had been in the country for two months.

First game saw Tga Spts play MT 1 (Saba) the boys scored the opening try and although they played competitively they were given a sharp lesson in playing sevens losing 36 to 12.

In the second game Tga played Te puna this was a much closer game with the boys almost pulling off a draw in the final seconds going down 17-10.
One low point of this game was a spear tackle on our 1st five resulting in a red card for one Te Puna player

Final game for the day was the play off for 5th and 6th.
In this game we played Mt 2 (Saba) by this time the boys where fairly well worn out and suffering from a few injurys. However they still played their best eventually losing 17-5

The boys represented the Club well and many people commented on how well turned out they were playing in the clubs white away strip.

All in all the boys had a great day and were a credit to the club.
