The best way to keep up to date with Telford Raiders

Promising Season Opener for U17's

Good performance hints at potential for another good season.

“First match of the season..The score did not reflect how hard you fought for each other....”

Telford Raiders V Hindley U17’s 9 April 2017
A full squad of 17 players saw Raiders U17’s take on a well drilled squad from Hindley in Wigan. With the Raiders seeing the return of some past players and with 2 debutantes taking the field hope was high for a good performance against a team that had beaten us significantly last season.

Hindley kicked off the game but Raiders squandered possession early in the tackle count. Hindley piled on the early pressure and muscled over scoring after 3 minutes (0-6). Having woken up, the Raiders had some good possession with strong runs for Oscar Stone, Luke Davies and Alex Pammenter. After getting a repeat set Ben Foskett scooted from dummy half powering over the Raiders first try of the game (4-6).
Hindley hit back with 2 quick tries after capitalising on Raiders penalties. The home side hit back with 2 tries for themselves with Oscar Stone sprinting in and Ben Foskett scoring his second both of which were converted by Sam Foskett (16-18). Hindley extended their lead with a breakaway try but Oscar restored the 2 point gap with his second try of the game (22-24).
With the Raiders bench looking like a casualty department Hindley extended the lead by 6 points with a further try out wide.
Raiders conceded another penalty in front of the posts the visitors opted to take the easy points meaning Telford would have to score twice is they were to get anything out of the game (30-22) with a few minutes left. After being reduced to 12 men due to a sin bin Hindley ran in 2 late tries making the final score Telford 22-40 Hindley.

The result didn’t reflect how the Raiders played today. For 4/5ths of the game we were equal to if not better than the visitors. With a few less penalties and a bit more luck today’s result could have gone in our favour. Well played today. Team today was Harry Pugsley, Luke Davies, Oscar Stone, Ewan Dalziel, Dave Finney, Joe Tinker, Ben Foskett, Scott Binny, Sam Foskett, Ron Horvath, Finn Adlington, Connor Tromans, Alex Pammenter, Ronan Lindley, Oskar Wrsosek, Matt Parry, Bradley Tipton.

First match of the season..The score did not reflect how hard you fought for each other.... Great debuts by Ronan Lindley and Bradley Tipton. Great to see you all back. Stick together and i think you’ll have an outstanding season. You did yourselves, your parents and the club proud. Thank you to the senior team and to the parents and volunteers for your support and great to see Ricky Bailey come and watch. Hope the lads who got injured get better soon. Onwards and upwards!
