Before the kick-off Hemsworth Miner Welfare Captain Andy Hart presented Teversal Captain Dave Cockerill
with a memento of thanks for agreeing to switch the corresponding fixture last season to Hemsworth's ground as a mark of respect following the death of the West Yorkshire side's secretary, Mark Crapper.
There is certainly a mutual respect between these two clubs and a good open entertaining encounter with both Keepers called into action to make routine saves. Teversal managed to take control of the game and the pressure was now starting to be mainly in the visitors half after the end to end start.
Teversal turned the advantage into a goal on 21 minutes, Jake Vernon
hit a 20 yard drive that forced Andy Joburns into an excellent that lead to corner. Dave Cockerill
drove in a fierce delivery from corner quadrant that beat everyone and dropped into the top corner at the far post.
Three minutes later it was 2-0, again it was that man Dave Cockerill
who produced a piece of individual skill that would have been shown again and again if it was on the Match of the day. Cockerill received the ball from Wild and as Conway tried to nick the ball the striker turned the defender to fire a volley in one movement from 25 yards that beat Joburns at the near post.
With the bit between their teeth the Tevie Boys was passing the ball around with movement all over the park and Jake Vernon
tried to emulate his Skipper when he hit an effort from 25yards that looked destined for the top corner, but Joburns was alight and made an excellent save.
The game looked like turning into the Vernon and Joburns contest when another neat passing move by the home side saw Harcourt and Pilmore being instrumental in setting up Vernon to fire another effort that Joburns was equal to on the half hour mark.
On 40 minutes the dominance of the home side was compounded with another goal of quality, Colin Cockerill
and Wild combined before picking out Vernon who in turn spread the ball out the left flank to Pearson who did superb to get past the defender before crossing to the far post for Will Harcourt
to out jump Clark to powerfully head home to make it 3-0 at the half time break.
Teversal looked like they was going to carry on where they left off and thought they added another goal on 48 minutes when Col Cockerill’s free kick from the half way line caused problems in the visitors goal area, with Goodacre firing home. But the goal was disallowed for a Teversal player being offside sometime in the melee.
Two minutes later Adi Whitmore had a great run from midfield and when he held of the challenge of Sidebottom, the Tevie man fired a weak effort that allowed Joburns to make a more routine save than the one’s in the first half.
Credit to Hemsworth who stuck to the task in hand and they had their purple patch in the middle third of the second period. But any thought they had of getting back into the game was dispelled by yet another assured performance of the home Custodian Ryan Brooks
. The highlight being when Dean Sidebottom’s excellently struck free kick from 20 yards was well saved at the cost of a corner and when Sidebottom swung the corner kick to Conway at the back stick, Brooks again made an excellent save to dispel any danger.
It was fitting that the final goal came through the excellent link up play between Dave Cockerill
and Jake Vernon
, Vernon picked the ball up in space before attacking the visitors defence to the pick exactly the right time to spray the ball out to Cockerill who delivered the perfect far post cross that invited Robbie Collins to bravely head home past Joburns to make it 4-0 with 5 minutes to play.
The home side played out the game and after two excellent home win’s hope now to continue the form on the road to further extend their club history making campaign.
An excellent performance by the Tevie Boys, which will hopefully keep them in good spirits for their trip to Louth Town next Saturday (20th April) 3.00pm kick off.
