After the last week’s downpours, Teversal were happy to travel to Bradford to face Albion Sports and play their final away fixture at the Horsfield Stadium which has had more fixtures cancelled than any other this season in the Baris Northern Counties East League Division One.

Credit to the home side for getting the game on even though the pitch was heavy, but produced an entertaining encounter that saw the home side getting the better side of the seven goal thriller to keep their promotion hopes alive and condemn the Tevie Boys to the bottom half of the table, a consequence of their poor run of results in the last five games that has seen them pick up just four points from a possible fifteen.

It took until the 8th minute for the first notable effort on goal was produced when the home had a corner that that visitors only cleared to the edge of the 18 yard box where Frost produced a fierce strike that Jono Wilson had to go full length to his left to tip over his bar. Two minutes later Collins held of the attentions of Frost at the other end of the pitch to create the visitors first opening, but the presence of Frost was enough to prevent the striker getting enough purchase on his effort with Brian making a routine save.

The condition’s certainly stifled the normal crisp passing of Teversal, Dickinson missed place a pass that fell to the impressive Jones in the Albion midfielder, who took the ball on before unleashing an excellent low drive that again had Wilson at full stretch to tip the effort round the post.

A well worked free kick by Goodacre and Cockerill saw the latter deliver an inch perfect cross to the far post to find Collins, but the striker’s header was easy picking for the home Keeper to gather due to the effort lacking any power. Brain punted the ball up the park to find the unmarked Heywood who had the vision to produce a stunning effort from 40 yards that looped over the stranded Wilson and smashed against the bar and really did deserve a goal for the quality and technique of the attempt.

With it looking that the game would be drifting to a 0-0 half time score-line, the defensive calamities started on 42 minutes when Albion was allowed to take the lead, a Teversal free kick was under-hit by Cockerill with Brown powerfully heading clear to find Heywood who was strong enough to hold of the attentions of Henshaw before clinically firing past Wilson to give the host the lead.

Equally impressive a minute later was the Teversal equaliser, Danny Wilson picked the ball up on the left before cutting in and weaving himself the space to fire an effort from 20 yards that bounced in front of Brian’s dive and bounced over the Keepers outstretched arms to level. Having managed to pull level, the visitors showed their kamikaze tendencies when neither Goodacre or Henshaw reacted to a through ball that gave Heywood the opportunity to seize on the opportunity with him rounding the stranded Wilson and firing home despite the desperate attempt of Harcourt to block the effort on the line to leave the score at the break of 2-1 to the host.

If the first half ended in disaster for the Tevie Boys, things went from bad to worse at the start of the second period, Dickinson tried to play a ball out wide, but instead only found the Cusack who had a clear run at the Tevie goal, with combination of Jono Wilson and Swales blocking the initial effort with Harcourt picking up the loose ball only to miss hit his clearance and played straight to Anil Singh who fired home to make it 3-1 on 47 minutes.

Eight minutes later it was 4-1 and looking like Albion Sports would be inflicting another embarrassing heavy defeat on Teversal, this goal again was more about the visitors defensive frailties. Again they failed to clear their lines and Cusack shown his quality by picking the ball up on the edge of the 18 yard box and curled an effort out of the reach of the Teversal Custodian and into the top corner.

Credit though must go to Teversal for showing some character and actually dominating the remainder of the game and they have every right to be disappointed that they not only didn’t get back on level terms, but not winning the game.

The comeback started in fine style with the goal of the game when Danny Wilson cross-field ball found Gary Atkins who struck a tremendous volley from an acute angle across goal and in to the bottom far post corner with 31 minutes to play.

Having introduced all three allowed subs, Tobin, Curzon and Pearson had a significant impact on the game for the Tevie Boys. So it was no surprise when all three were involved in the build-up to Gary Atkins second goal on 75 minutes, even though it wasn’t as classy as finish has his first effort with Brian in the home goal simply misjudging it and literary throwing it into the net to make it 4-3.

Playing with pace and purpose Teversal looked threatening every time when they went forward and Brian showed his best side with an absolutely stunning save to deny Atkins his hat-trick with the Teversal midfielder produced a great strike to match the build-up play with the Albion custodian flying through the air to tip it over the bar on 80 minutes.

Will Harcourt missed a golden opportunity to level when Dickinson’s through ball picked out the full backs run, but Harcourt tried to place it into the path Curzon instead of being selfish which allowed Brian to smother the attempted pull back.

In added on time Brian again denied Atkins when Cockerill sent the midfielder through on a 50/50 race with the Albion Keeper and having won that tried to slip the ball past the Brian, but an outstretched leg denied the Teversal Boys at least a spoil of the points that their efforts deserved.

Teversal now enter their final game of the season when Hemsworth Miners Welfare will be the visitors to Carnarvon Street in the Baris Northern Counties East League, Division One with a 3:00pm kick off on Saturday 28th April 2012.
