TEVERSAL FC 2 - 2 PARKGATE FC
HONOURS EVEN AT CARNARVON STREET [Match report courtesy of Parkgate FC website]
Late, late Whittaker strike earns Steelmen Teversal draw.
It was honours even in the sunshine as East Midlands Counties League side Teversal FC and Parkgate shared four goals in a 2-2 draw at Carnarvon Road this afternoon, an early kick-off allowing the 35 spectators the opportunity of taking in England’s World Cup Third Place Play-Off, writes Colin Muncie for the Parkgate FC website.
The home side took the initiative early in the game, but Parkgate gradually got a foothold in a highly watchable encounter played in the midday heat. The home keeper did well to beat away a left-footed Joe Harris strike, but Teversal could consider themselves a little unfortunate not to earn a penalty just before the break.
The home side went ahead two minutes into the second period when Danny Fullwood finished well from close range after good work down the right, but Andrew Fox rifled in a free kick from the edge of the box to tie things up for Parkgate after 55 minutes. Both Billy Fox and his opposite number Lee Cook rang the changes, but with the visitors threatening, a defensive lapse allowed Tom Savage to apply the close range finishing touch to a brilliant left wing cross to restore Teversal’s advantage on 83 minutes. Parkgate pushed up looking for a late leveller, and right on full time, centre back Tim Whittaker found himself in acres of space and finished calmly to even matters at 2-2.
Thanks to Teversal for their excellent hospitality and good luck for the new season.
