PENISTONE CHURCH : MATCH PREVIEW

Penistone Church were only admitted to the Toolstation Northern Counties East League at the start of last season and in that first season they finished in a creditable ninth place...

...and have started this season in the same manner too.

There were three matches with Teversal FC last season. We travelled up midweek to Penistone in mid-August for the opening round of the NCEL League Cup. Lee Naughton gave the Tevie Boys the lead early on but the home side struck back with two goals to progress.
A mere fourteen days later we were back up there for the league game. A couple of goals in the first five minutes gave Penistone a dream start, but the Tevie Boys stuck to the task fand fought back with a goal from Aidey Harris and two from Paul Staniforth meant Teversal went home with the three points with a 3-2 win.
The match at Carnarvon Street, in early February, featured more early goals (three in the first ten minutes) but it was the Sheffield side that took the points with a 6-2 win, Mark Robinson scoring both the Tevie goals in the first and 34th minute.

So, our advice is to get to Penistone in plenty of time cos you might miss a goal or two.

DIRECTIONS :

Take either of the following routes:-

From M1 Junction 35a
• Leave the M1 at J35A and at roundabout take the 2nd exit on the A616 (Manchester).
• At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit (A616 Manchester), then take the 1st exit towards Penistone (A629 Huddersfield).
• Follow this road through Wortley and Thurgoland and then take the B6462 to Penistone.
• Then travel under 3 railway bridges. Turn sharp left after the 3rd Bridge and follow the road round to the right onto Church View Road.
• Ground is approximately 600yds on the left.

From M1 Junction 37
• Leave the M1 at Junction 37 and take the 1st exit (A628 Manchester).
• After half a mile take the 2nd exit (A628 Manchester).
• After approximately 4 miles take the 2nd exit (A628 Manchester), then at the traffic lights turn left towards Penistone Town centre.
• On entering town centre, after the Pelican Crossing, take the first left into Victoria Street.
• Then take the 2nd left and the ground is on the right.
