Sean Green’s 67th minute goal was the difference between two of our top teams as KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE scored a direct hit over one of the title favourites TEVERSAL in a competitive fixture at the Nottingham Road ground. Whilst ARNOLD TOWN were left still clinging onto the bottom rung as Dean Rick’s goal two minutes from the end gave CLIPSTONE their third successive win. Dillon Bird had given the Eagles a good start with a goal five minutes before the break, but Tom Moult had levelled on 73 and Rick got the home side’s winner.

WEST BRIDGFORD are another club courting problems at the wrong end of the table and, on Friday evening, they went down 4-0 at home to improving BARROW TOWN who scored three of their four goals in a five minute spell midway through the first half. Sean Beaver opened the scoring on the half hour; Zak Ginvert added a second three minutes later, and Ryan Kirk made it three on 35. The home side had Aaron Large and Sam Perrin both dismissed for two yellow cards before Malaki Lumsden completed the scoring.

On to Saturday. It was a day which saw the end of any FA Cup giant killing hopes our teams may have had as CLIPSTONE went down to former EMCFL club Anstey Nomads, now playing in the United Counties League, by 4-1. Dean Rick got the Clippies goal on 50 minutes. Elsewhere, KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE went down 2-0 at home to another UCL club, Oadby Town, missing a spot kick with the score at 1-0. RAINWORTH MINERS WELFARE came the closest, losing by the only goal of the game to Northern Premier League newcomers AFC Mansfield.
There were six league fixtures played and, most surprisingly, every one of them resulted in an away win. The biggest of these was at Eagle Valley where ARNOLD TOWN went down 11-1 to last season’s Leicestershire Senior League champions INGLES. Laithan Hammond scored four times, Sean Woolley helped himself to a hat-trick and the rest of the goals were shared between Billy Blackshaw, Dan Jelley, Sam Kee and Lloyd Tapper. Arnold’s sole reply came from a Curtis Millward spot kick.
GRAHAM STREET PRIMS moved up to the dizzy heights of fifth with a 5-0 success at ASHBY IVANHOE. Bradley Scard opened the scoring on 27 minutes and added his second of the game just after the interval. Bhopinder Aietan sent the visitors into a two-goal interval lead and Matt Harris and Dominic Wilkinson completed the romp in the second half.
The first ever meeting between the two clubs at the sun drenched Town Ground EASTWOOD COMMUNITY hit back from Jamie Sleigh’s fifth minute opener for HEANOR TOWN to score five times in 35 second half minutes and take the points. Davie Jones ignored his “Locker” for once and became the game’s outstanding player with a hat-trick in 19 minutes, beginning in the 55th minute and ending on the 74th. Kaylum Mitchell added the other two late on as the visitors ran a ragged Heanor into submission on the occasion of their first home game of the season in front of a bumper crowd of 196.
SHERWOOD COLLIERY continued their 100% start to the season with a 2-0 win at CLIFTON ALL WHITES to set the pace. Gareth Curtis got both their goals in the tenth and 80th minutes whilst Michael Dunne’s 88th minute winner gave BELPER UNITED all three points on their visit to GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Dean Oliver broke the deadlock with the games first goal on 54 minutes only for an 86th minute leveller for Gedling from Jack Jepson looked like seeing the clubs share the spoils until Dunne popped up with the winner.
