Barton Town v Thackley.

Northern Counties East League Premier Division – Tuesday 17th April 2018 – Kick off 7.45pm.

Thackley travel to Humberside on Tuesday for a Premier League game against Barton Town. The Swans missed out on a game last Saturday; their home fixture against Bottesford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. I believe the pitch is still very wet but barring further rain the match is likely to go ahead.

Barton were promoted to the NCEL in 2007 and after spending four years in the First Division moved up to the Premier in 2011. Their best season to date was the 2013/14 when they just missed out on promotion, finishing second in the table to Brighouse Town. This season they have struggled somewhat but have started to come good in the last couple of months. Indeed, their last defeat was back in January and they are currently on a five game winning run.

Having been in the Premier Division for six seasons, Thackley and Barton have met on twelve previous occasions prior to this season; the Dennyboys have the statistical advantage in having won seven of these matches with one finishing all square. The Swans have played the majority of their thirty two games this season away from home; with ten left, eight of these will be at Marsh Lane. Earlier this season Thackley came out on top when the two met at Dennyfield beating the Swans four nil, Joe Hughes got his first hat trick for the club, Mike Garrod getting the fourth goal.

Thackley will be hoping they can overcome last Saturday’s disappointment of losing at Hemsworth. After a four game winning run which moved them away from the relegation places, the Dennyboys have found points difficult to come by and have picked up just one from their last four matches. Still not statistically out of danger of dropping down a division, they need a few more points to ensure their safety. Barton are on the same number of points as the Dennyboys but have four games in hand, which means they have an hectic couple of weeks coming up. Their current form makes the Swans the favourite for this game but when on song the Dennyboys are a match for anyone.
