Reports from the matches against Eccleshill Utd, Athletico and Ashton Utd

Eccleshill Utd - on an artificial pitch Thackley Reserves beat Eccleshill by a single goal scored by Zivahi Mbire (aka Izzy) in the 58th minute. The game started with Thackley taking firm control and creating several chances. Daniel Nazir went close in the 11th min when the Eccleshill keeper made a fine save. on 28 mins, Luke Robinson combined well with "birthday boy" Jordan Horsfall (21 today) to create a chance for Joe Keen but the Eccleshill defence managed to scramble the ball away for a corner. On the stroke of half time, Izzy crossed the ball into the penalty area and Danny Nazir's header just clipped the bar. Half time 0-0
Thackley again started the second half in a determined mood and it wasn't long before their persistence paid off. After 13 mins Joe Keen took possession on the left, evaded a couple of tackles and placed a low cross into the box where Izzy met it perfectly to open the scoring. From then on Eccleshill took the game more into Thackley's half but another fine display from Kyle Fox and a polished performance from Kane Alexander ensured that Matt Keen in the Thackley goal was well protected and didn't have many saves to make. Charlie Barker was again solid at left back and gave the tricky Eccleshill wide players no opportunities to make any penetrating runs. With Ryan Ives and Nathan Hallas pulling all the strings in midfield, the match was never in doubt. 16-year-old Jack Morrall made his debut with 15 mins to play replacing Danny Nazir and an injury to Joe Keen saw Jake Coulter came on for the last 10 mins. In the end it was the better, more determined display from Thackley that won the game. Eccleshill were fit, fast and tricky but not able to create any clear cut chances and Thackley came away with all three points. Full time 1-0

Athletico - This Bradford & District Senior Cup tie was played at Avenue Road on Sat 18 Oct and Thackley ran out 3-2 winners but it was a hard fought match in the end with the winner coming in the 90th min. For the first 20 mins Thackley played possession football on a reasonable surface and Athletico barely got a touch of the ball. Thackley opened the scoring in the 17th min with a tap in by Rob Foulds from a cross from the right and we looked forward to more goals. Well, the next goal came in the 40 min but was scored by Athletico. In their first serious attack, the ball was hit long over the Thackley defence and the Athletico centre forward then lobbed the ball over Matt Keen to level the scores. 1-1 at half time. Danny Nazir was on target in the 66 min with a fierce shot that the keeper couldn’t hold and the lead was restored. Athletico however, came more into the game and with only 6 mins to play they equalized once more when a mix up between Matt Keen and his defenders left the Athletico striker to walk the ball into the net. It wasn’t until the 90th minute that Thackley regained their lead when Jake Coulter got his reward and hammered the ball home for the winning goal. In the next round Thackley are at home to the winners of Tyersal v Campion which will be played on Sat 15 Nov ko 1.45.

Ashton Utd – This was the Lancs League Cup in which Thackley reached last year’s final, losing to FC United of Manchester. This year however, the final will not include Thackley, as they were beaten 3-1 on penalties having drawn 1-1 after extra time. Ashton fielded a very strong side and Thackley did well to reach the penalty shoot out. Matt Bilney was the scorer for Thackley.
