Thackley take on Barton Town in their first home league game of the season on Saturday. Like Thackley the ‘Swans’ have played three competitive games this season and are still without a win. They have played just one league game on the opening Saturday of the season, at Staveley Miners Welfare and came away with a point in a one all draw. Their other two competitive games were in the FA Cup against ex NCEL side Clipstone, last weekend’s Extra Preliminary Round tie finished all square, the two met again in a replay on Tuesday night when the Cobras came out on top winning a seven goal thriller.
Last season Barton finished in twelfth position in the league with honours even with Thackley, both teams winning on their home grounds. Thackley had a comfortable 4-0 win at Dennyfield, Joe Hughes grabbing a hat trick, Mike Garrod scoring the other goal. At Marsh Lane, Barton won with the only goal of the game scored by Gareth Barlow.
Thackley have yet to record a win in their opening three games. A point from their encounter in the local derby against Eccleshill was, followed a week later, by defeat at the hands of Whitley Bay in the EP Round of the FA Cup. On Wednesday night the Dennyboys suffered their first league defeat of the season at Penistone Church. After being under pressure for most of the first half they went into the break on level terms but Penistone won the game with three late goals which did not reflect on Thackley’s second half performance.
Tomorrow, both sides will be looking to record their first victory of the season.
