Both without a game in March, Thackley and Garforth will be hoping for a rapid thaw and drying weather.

Thackley v Garforth Town.

Northern Counties East League Premier Division – Tuesday 20th March 2018 – Kick off 7.45pm.

Will the ‘Beast from the East’ again prevent the Dennyboys from getting started in March. Garforth Town are the scheduled visitors to the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield on Tuesday night for a rearranged Premier League game. The Miners too have been inactive throughout the month and so, like Thackley, will be hoping the weather relents somewhat and both can get some game time. Garforth are currently in mid table with forty four points from the thirty games they have played. They managed to play four league games in February which yielded seven points, with victories against Maltby and Worksop, the single point coming from an away game at Rainworth.

Garforth were founder members of the NCEL and have been one of those teams that have had an up and down existence. They were relegated back down to the NCEL in 2013 having been promoted to the Northern Premier League in 2007. Over the years the two teams have met on numerous occasions and last season the Dennyboys managed a rare double over their Leeds rivals. The two have clashed already this season, at Cedar Ridge, when they shared six goals in an entertaining game. Thackley’s scorers on that day were Will Hutton, Sam Cable and Ben Walker, all of whom have moved on. The Garforth scorer was Mark Simpson with an hat trick, he is currently one of the league’s top scorers having hit the net twenty four times so far this season.

Thackley are desperate to get some game time to build on their latest couple of victories, a narrow win against Albion followed by a six nil comprehensive victory at Clipstone. At the time of writing there must be some doubt about Tuesday’s game going ahead, the ground is currently covered in snow. It will take a rapid thaw and some drying winds to make the pitch playable but we will be crossing our fingers and hoping for the best.
