Thackley have a mid week match on Tuesday night when Maltby Main are the visitors to Dennyfield. Maltby could be described as one of Thackley’s nemesis sides, although the Dennyboys have beaten them on a few occasions, they always find it difficult to get a result against the Miners. Last year honours were even, Thackley getting a rare victory at Muglet Lane, whilst Maltby took all three points away from Dennyfield. That was in February, when Maltby were one of the form teams in the league, indeed, they finished in a creditable seventh position in the table following some excellent results in the latter part of the season.

Unfortunately, they have not carried that form into the current season and have just one victory to their name in the four competitive matches they have played so far. That win came in their match on Saturday when they beat Armthorpe three nil at the Welfare Ground.

Results can be a bit misleading at this time of the season, no one really knows who the strongest or weakest teams are so early on.

What Thackley will know is that they will have to be at their best on Tuesday to overcome their nemesis. Saturday’s excellent victory will no doubt have given them a confidence boost prior to the match.
