Late Basi goal earns Thackley a point at Bracken Edge.

Yorkshire Amateur 2 Thackley 2.

Thackley travelled the short distance to Leeds to take on third in the table Yorkshire Amateur in their first league meeting for over forty years. The Ammers were one of the teams expected to be up amongst the promotion hopefuls at the end of the season. Thackley started with the same eleven that took the field against Thornaby last Saturday.

The home side won a couple of corners in the opening minutes but as early as the seventh, Darren Thornton was booked for scything down James Ngoe as he broke clear. Paul Whiteley had a shot that went wide in a game that was being played out in mid field, Thackley were having their fair share of possession without being dangerous. Yorkshire Amateur were trying to set Ashley Flynn clear but the home striker was kept in check by the Thackley defence. Around the half hour mark Luke Wilson made a couple of important saves, coming out to thwart Flynn as he burst into the box, the ball ran free but he was able to deflect the next shot wide. He then got down well to save from Fernando Moke. It looked as if the teams would be going into the break on level terms but the home side made the best of a couple of defensive errors. Again it was Flynn that was clear, again Wilson came out to thwart, again the ball ran free but this time Brice Tiani fired in a shot that was headed into the net by Kris Hargreaves as he tried to clear. It was the last action of the half and not an ideal time to give away a goal.

Half time: Yorkshire Amateur 1 Thackley 0.

The second half opened quite slowly before just after the hour Thackley got back on level terms. It stemmed from an Alex Marsh corner on the left, Ngoe raced from the half way line to meet up with his pulled back flag kick and fired past Suwara Bojang in the home goal. Another training ground manoeuvre? Ngoe went on a mazy run before pulling the ball back to Jordan Hines but there was little power in his shot. Bojang then came out to deny Luke Robinson as the Dennyboys applied some pressure. Thackley made a change, Redmond Lee replacing Hines. Kieran Thompson stopped substitute Nathan Hunt with a well timed tackle as he raced through, the ball going for a corner. From the resultant flag kick Matt Dempsey headed over after rising above a rather static defence, this should have been a warning for the Dennyboys. Unfortunately no lessons were learnt, for a couple of minutes later, Dempsey made no mistake, this time heading the ball under the bar following another corner on the right. Thackley began their fight back; Nicky Matthews brought a save from Bojang after another mazy run from Ngoe. At the other end Wilson made a good save from Moke before Thackley were rewarded for their effort with a goal. A long throw in was knocked across goal, Bojang flapped at the ball and it fell to Ryan Basi who fired in from close range. Kris Hargreaves picked up a yellow card for a rather overzealous challenge and James Rothel replaced Ngoe before time was called on proceedings.

Full time: Yorkshire Amateur 2 Thackley 2.

The result says something about this Thackley team, they gave a goal way just before the break but fought back to equalise, they gave another poor goal away with ten minutes remaining but fought back to level again. They earned a point in this game.

It is FA Vase action next for Thackley when they entertain Carlisle City at Dennyfield on Saturday.
